CAS:Sphingomyelin is a complex phospholipid that is composed of a hydrophilic head group and a hydrophobic tail. It is the most abundant phospholipid in cell membranes, where it serves as a major component of the myelin sheath of nerve cells. The sphingomyelin content in bovine milk is about 2-3% by weight. Sphingomyelin has been shown to be effective against hepatic steatosis, metabolic disorders, infectious diseases, and physiological effects. In addition, it can be used as an anti-inflammatory agent for treating asthma and rheumatoid arthritis. Sphingomyelin has also been found to inhibit the activity of certain enzymes such as cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) and lipoprotein lipase (LPL).
