Isotretinoin, mit der CAS-Nummer 4759-48-2, ist ein synthetisches Retinoid, das hauptsächlich zur Behandlung von schwerer Akne, insbesondere von nodulärer Akne, die auf andere Therapien nicht angesprochen hat, eingesetzt wird. Es ist ein Derivat von Vitamin A und wirkt, indem es die Talgproduktion reduziert, die Zellneubildung fördert und entzündungshemmende Eigenschaften aufweist. Isotretinoin zeichnet sich durch seine lipophile Natur aus, die es ihm ermöglicht, im Magen-Darm-Trakt gut aufgenommen zu werden, wenn es oral eingenommen wird.
