Beschreibung:

Natriumcarbonat, allgemein bekannt als Sodaasche oder Waschsoda, ist eine anorganische Verbindung mit der chemischen Formel Na2CO3. Es erscheint als ein weißer, kristalliner Feststoff, der hygroskopisch ist, was bedeutet, dass er Feuchtigkeit aus der Luft aufnehmen kann. Natriumcarbonat ist hochlöslich in Wasser und erzeugt eine alkalische Lösung mit einem pH-Wert, der typischerweise über 11 liegt. Es wird hauptsächlich in der Glasherstellung, als pH-Regulator in Schwimmbädern und als Reinigungsmittel in verschiedenen Haushaltsprodukten verwendet. Die Verbindung wird auch in der Produktion von Natriumbicarbonat und in verschiedenen chemischen Prozessen eingesetzt. Natriumcarbonat kann durch das Solvay-Verfahren hergestellt oder aus natürlichen Quellen wie Trona-Erz gewonnen werden. Es wird allgemein als sicher für die Verwendung in Lebensmittel- und Industrieanwendungen angesehen, obwohl es bei Kontakt Haut- und Augenreizungen verursachen kann. In Bezug auf die Umweltauswirkungen ist Natriumcarbonat ungiftig und biologisch abbaubar, was es zu einer bevorzugten Wahl in vielen Anwendungen macht.
