PAG can be detected by magnetic resonance spectroscopy as a potential biomarker for chronic kidney disease and cancer. PAG has been shown to have anti-cancer effects by inhibiting the proliferation of malignant cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of monocarboxylic acids. It also inhibits the synthesis of ATP, which leads to a decrease in cellular energy metabolism.
