4-Aminoquinazolin-2-ol is a regiospecific nitrogen nucleophile that can be used to synthesize heterocyclic compounds. It has been shown to have anticancer activity, and can be used as a control agent for cancer. 4-Aminoquinazolin-2-ol is also used in animals to study cell growth and the effects of drugs on cells. It binds to the alkyl group of a cell membrane and reacts with a hydroxyl group on the other side of the membrane, causing it to become more permeable so that sodium ions are allowed into the cell, which leads to an increase in intracellular calcium levels. 4-Aminoquinazolin-2-ol is also able to bind with potassium ion (K+) as a result of its nitrogen nucleophilic character.
