Hexadecandisäure, auch bekannt als Palmitinsäure oder Sebacinsäure, ist eine Dicarbonsäure mit der chemischen Formel C16H30O4. Sie weist eine lange Kohlenwasserstoffkette auf, die aus 16 Kohlenstoffatomen besteht, mit zwei Carbonsäurefunktionen (-COOH) an jedem Ende. Diese Struktur verleiht ihr sowohl hydrophobe als auch hydrophile Eigenschaften, wodurch sie amphiphil wird. Hexadecandisäure ist bei Raumtemperatur ein weißer, wachsartiger Feststoff und in organischen Lösungsmitteln löslich, hat jedoch eine begrenzte Löslichkeit in Wasser. Es wird hauptsächlich in der Herstellung von Polyamiden, Polyestern und als Vorstufe bei der Synthese verschiedener Chemikalien verwendet. Darüber hinaus dient es als Tensid und Emulgator in kosmetischen Formulierungen. Die Verbindung ist bekannt für ihre relativ geringe Toxizität, kann jedoch wie viele Dicarbonsäuren bei Kontakt mit Haut oder Augen Reizungen verursachen. Der Schmelzpunkt und der Siedepunkt werden durch die lange Kohlenstoffkette beeinflusst, was zu ihrer Stabilität und Nützlichkeit in verschiedenen industriellen Anwendungen beiträgt.

Hexadecanedioic acid also inhibits the enzyme activities of hepatic lipase and fatty acid synthase in rat liver cells.
