Propylthiouracil (PTU) ist ein antithyroides Medikament, das hauptsächlich zur Behandlung von Hyperthyreose eingesetzt wird, insbesondere bei Erkrankungen wie Morbus Basedow. Es wirkt, indem es das Enzym Thyreoperoxidase hemmt, das für die Synthese von Schilddrüsenhormonen entscheidend ist, wodurch deren Produktion verringert wird.
