CAS:Pyridine-2-carboximidamide hydrochloride is an inhibitor of soluble guanylate cyclase. It has been shown to be active against trypanosomes, which are parasitic protozoans that cause African sleeping sickness and Chagas disease. Pyridine-2-carboximidamide hydrochloride binds to the ligand binding site of soluble guanylate cyclase and inhibits the enzyme's activity. This inhibition leads to a decrease in the production of cGMP, resulting in reduced inflammatory responses and vasodilation. Pyridine-2-carboximidamide hydrochloride also has been shown to have a protective effect on Alzheimer's disease by preventing the formation of amyloid beta peptides.
