Dimenhydrinat ist ein Antihistaminikum, das häufig zur Vorbeugung und Behandlung von Übelkeit, Erbrechen und Schwindel eingesetzt wird, die durch Reisekrankheit verursacht werden. Es handelt sich um eine Kombination aus Diphenhydramin, einem Antihistaminikum, und 8-Chlorotheophyllin, einem Stimulans, das die sedativen Wirkungen von Diphenhydramin ausgleicht. Die Substanz erscheint als weißes bis off-white kristallines Pulver und ist in Wasser löslich, was sie für verschiedene Formulierungen, einschließlich Tabletten und oralen Lösungen, geeignet macht. Dimenhydrinat wirkt, indem es die Wirkung von Histamin an H1-Rezeptoren blockiert und hat anticholinerge Eigenschaften, die zu seiner Wirksamkeit bei der Linderung von Symptomen im Zusammenhang mit Reisekrankheit beitragen.
