The source of Scillascillin, Urginea maritima, is a bulbous plant native to the Mediterranean region. The mode of action of Scillascillin involves inhibiting the Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase pump, leading to an increase in intracellular sodium levels. This subsequently enhances the influx of calcium ions through the sodium-calcium exchange mechanism, resulting in increased cardiac contractility.
