(-)-Cocainhydrochlorid ist die Hydrochlorid-Salzform von Kokain, einem potenten Alkaloid, das aus den Blättern der Koka-Pflanze, Erythroxylum coca, gewonnen wird. Es handelt sich um ein weißes kristallines Pulver, das in Wasser löslich ist und einen bitteren Geschmack hat. Als Lokalanästhetikum wirkt es, indem es Natriumkanäle blockiert und somit die Übertragung von Nervenimpulsen hemmt. Diese Eigenschaft macht es in bestimmten medizinischen Anwendungen, insbesondere in der Zahnmedizin und Hals-Nasen-Ohren-Heilkunde, nützlich.
