1,3-Dihydro-1-hydroxy-2H-benzimidazol-2-one is a sodium salt that is used as an antifungal agent. It has been shown to be fungistatic against Microsporum canis and Trichophyton mentagrophytes with low toxicity to humans. The synthesis of 1,3-Dihydro-1-hydroxy-2H-benzimidazol-2-one involves the reaction of 2,4,6,-triaminopyrimidine with formaldehyde and sodium hydroxide in water. This synthesis requires a high degree of skill because of the difficult conditions it requires.
