Pilocarpinhydrochlorid ist ein Medikament, das hauptsächlich zur Behandlung von Erkrankungen wie Glaukom und Mundtrockenheit (Xerostomie) eingesetzt wird. Es handelt sich um ein synthetisches Alkaloid, das aus den Blättern der Pilocarpus-Pflanze gewonnen wird. Als Hydrochloridsalz wird es typischerweise als weißes bis off-white kristallines Pulver präsentiert, das in Wasser löslich ist. Pilocarpin wirkt als muskarinischer Agonist, stimuliert das parasympathische Nervensystem, was zu einer erhöhten Speichel- und Tränenproduktion sowie zu einer Verringerung des Augeninnendrucks führt, indem der Abfluss des Kammerwassers erleichtert wird.
