Salinomycin sodium has been shown to inhibit complex enzymes by intramolecular hydrogen bonding. This inhibition may lead to cell death or cytotoxicity. Salinomycin is a compound that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, which may be due to its interference with ribosome function or the binding of tRNA molecules to the ribosome. It also inhibits DNA replication, leading to cell death by inhibiting RNA synthesis or preventing DNA from being replicated. Salinomycin can also disrupt membrane permeability and induce lipid peroxidation in cells, leading to cell death.
