Glycerin

Beschreibung:

Glycerin, auch bekannt als Glycerin oder Glycerol, ist eine farb- und geruchlose, viskose Flüssigkeit mit der chemischen Formel C3H8O3. Es ist ein Triol, was bedeutet, dass es drei Hydroxylgruppen (-OH) enthält, die zu seiner hygroskopischen Natur beitragen und es ihm ermöglichen, Feuchtigkeit anzuziehen und zu halten. Glycerin ist in Wasser und Alkohol löslich, aber unlöslich in Ölen, was es zu einer vielseitigen Verbindung in verschiedenen Anwendungen macht. Es wird häufig in der Lebensmittelindustrie als Süßungsmittel und Feuchthaltemittel, in der Pharmaindustrie als Lösungsmittel und Konservierungsmittel sowie in Kosmetika aufgrund seiner feuchtigkeitsspendenden Eigenschaften verwendet. Glycerin ist ungiftig und wird von den Regulierungsbehörden allgemein als sicher (GRAS) anerkannt. Darüber hinaus hat es einen relativ hohen Siedepunkt und eine niedrige Flüchtigkeit, was es unter normalen Bedingungen stabil macht. Seine Fähigkeit, Wasserstoffbrücken zu bilden, trägt zu seiner hohen Viskosität und Oberflächenspannung bei. Glycerin kann auch aus natürlichen Quellen, wie pflanzlichen Ölen, durch Prozesse wie Verseifung oder Transesterifizierung gewonnen werden, was es zu einer nachhaltigen Wahl in vielen Formulierungen macht.

Glycerine is a trihydric alcohol that is used as a solvent in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and soaps. It also acts as an emollient and humectant. Glycerin is produced by hydrolysis of fats or oils with water and the catalytic use of strong base. The reaction mechanism for glycerin is: CH3-CO-OH + H2O → CH2-OH-CO-H + H+ The carbonyl oxygens are protonated to form carboxylates, which in turn react with water to form hydrocarbons. These hydrocarbons form esters with the glycerol molecule. The water vapor can be removed by distillation and the resulting product is glycerine.
