Undecylprodigiosin hydrochloride is a natural product with antioxidative properties. It has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity in vitro against various carcinoma cell lines and coelicolor. This compound also inhibits cyclin D2, a protein involved in the regulation of the G1 phase of the cell cycle, and gyrophoric acid production, which may be responsible for its antibacterial activity. Undecylprodigiosin hydrochloride has been shown to inhibit the growth of Streptomyces sp., an antibiotic-producing microorganism that causes infectious diseases. The antibiotic activity of undecylprodigiosin hydrochloride is due to its ability to inhibit transcriptional regulation by binding to DNA.
