It has been shown to be effective against cancer tissues and infectious diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, and leishmaniasis. Ethacrynic acid inhibits 2,4-dichlorobenzoic acid (2,4-DCBA)-induced tumor growth in mice by inducing apoptosis in human leukemia cells. Ethacrynic acid also inhibits mitochondrial membrane potential and cellular physiology by decreasing the activity of enzymes which are involved in energy metabolism.
