N,N-Diethylnicotinamide has a synergistic effect with pentobarbital sodium in inducing chronic pulmonary inflammation in rats. This drug also has an acid complexing effect on fatty acids and nitrogen atoms. The coordination geometry of this drug is octahedral with two nitrogen atoms coordinated to one metal ion. N,N-Diethylnicotinamide can be synthesized by reacting nicotinic acid with diethylamine in the presence of 1 equivalent of hydrogen gas.
