CAS:Kontrolliertes Produkt5'-Androstane-3',17'-diol (5-AD) is a neurosteroid that is synthesized from cholesterol. It is present in the brain, testes, and ovaries, where it plays an important role in regulating hormone levels. 5-AD has been shown to be involved in the development of the prostate gland and may also have antiseizure and antiepileptic effects. The enzyme dehydrogenase catalyzes the conversion of this compound to 5-androstene-3,17-dione (5-AND). The conversion of 5-AD to 5-AND is inhibited by the aromatase inhibitor letrozole. 5-AD can also be converted into estradiol by 17β hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1.
