T4 has been shown to bind to integrin receptors on endothelial cells and stimulate the proliferation of these cells. This hormone also has pro-apoptotic activity, inducing programmed cell death in cancer cells. T4 is used as a model system for studying the molecular pathogenesis of thyroid cancer.
