Vopicoic acid is a non-selective, chelating agent that binds to metal ions and inhibits the activity of various enzymes. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of neuronal death induced by apoptosis pathway activation. Vopicoic acid also possesses anti-cancer properties against human cancer cells in vitro. It can reduce tumor size and inhibit cell proliferation. The efficacy of vopicoic acid as an anticancer agent has been demonstrated in experimental models for colon cancer, breast cancer, and leukemia.
