    <p>5-Deoxy-D-arabinose is a phenylhydrazone compound that is soluble in water and alcohol. It has a molecular weight of 176.20, and its chemical formula is C6H8N2O3. The substance has been shown to be an inhibitor of the bacterial enzyme d-threose synthase, which catalyzes the formation of d-threose from D-ribose 5-phosphate and glycerone phosphate. This substance also inhibits fungal pteridine reductase; however, it does not inhibit mammalian pteridine reductase. 5-Deoxy-D-arabinose has analogues that are biologically active.</p>
