3-[Bis(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]-2-hydroxypropansulfonsäure, allgemein bekannt als BES, ist ein zwitterionischer Puffer, der in der biologischen und biochemischen Forschung weit verbreitet ist. Er weist eine sulfonische Säuregruppe auf, die eine starke Säurekraft verleiht, sowie zwei Hydroxyethylgruppen, die seine Löslichkeit in wässrigen Lösungen erhöhen.
