Cefotetan ist ein Breitband-Cephalosporin-Antibiotikum, das zur zweiten Generation der Cephalosporine gehört. Es wird hauptsächlich zur Behandlung einer Vielzahl von bakteriellen Infektionen eingesetzt, insbesondere solcher, die durch gramnegative Bakterien verursacht werden. Cefotetan weist eine beta-lactam Struktur auf, die für seine antibakterielle Aktivität entscheidend ist, da sie die Synthese der bakteriellen Zellwand stört. Diese Verbindung ist gegen eine Reihe von Krankheitserregern wirksam, einschließlich Escherichia coli und Klebsiella pneumoniae.
