This compound also binds to the benzene ring, which may be due to its acidic nature. 3-Acetylindole has been shown to inhibit T-cell leukemia and other cancers in animal models. It has also been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in culture by blocking DNA synthesis and inhibiting proliferation. The binding constants for this compound have been determined by x-ray crystal structures and protonation studies.
