6,7-Dihydro-5H-benzo[7]annulene is a synthetic derivative of the naphthalene group of compounds. It has been shown to have antiestrogenic activity and was used as a lead compound in the development of a new class of pharmaceutical preparations for the treatment of endometriosis and prostate cancer. This compound binds to estrogen receptors and inhibits their transcriptional activity. 6,7-Dihydro-5H-benzo[7]annulene also inhibits cell proliferation by binding to DNA and preventing RNA synthesis.
