Beschreibung: p,p'-DDE, oder 1,1-Dichlor-2,2-bis(p-chlorphenyl)ethylen, ist ein persistenter organischer Schadstoff und ein Abbauprodukt des Pestizids DDT (Dichlordiphenyltrichlorethan). Er zeichnet sich durch seine lipophile Natur aus, die es ihm ermöglicht, sich in den Fettschichten lebender Organismen anzusammeln, was zu einer Biomagnifikation in der Nahrungskette führt. p,p'-DDE ist bei Raumtemperatur ein farbloser bis blassgelber Feststoff und relativ stabil, mit geringer Flüchtigkeit. Er ist schlecht wasserlöslich, aber in organischen Lösungsmitteln löslich, was zu seiner Umweltpersistenz beiträgt. Die Verbindung wurde mit verschiedenen ökologischen und gesundheitlichen Bedenken in Verbindung gebracht, einschließlich endokriner Störungen, da sie Östrogen nachahmen und in hormonelle Systeme von Wildtieren und Menschen eingreifen kann.
