Beschreibung:
4-(2-Hydroxyethyl)-1-piperazinethansulfonsäure, allgemein bekannt als HEPES, ist ein zwitterionisches Pufferungsmittel, das in der biologischen und biochemischen Forschung weit verbreitet ist. Es hat einen pKa-Wert von etwa 7,5, was es besonders effektiv macht, um den physiologischen pH-Wert in Zellkulturen und biochemischen Assays aufrechtzuerhalten. HEPES ist in Wasser löslich und zeigt eine gute Stabilität unter physiologischen Bedingungen, was für Experimente, die konsistente pH-Werte erfordern, entscheidend ist. Seine Struktur weist einen Piperazinsring, eine sulfonische Säuregruppe und eine Hydroxyethyl-Seitenkette auf, die zu seiner Pufferkapazität beitragen. HEPES ist nicht toxisch für Zellen, was es für verschiedene Anwendungen geeignet macht, einschließlich der Proteinreinigung und enzymatischer Assays.
