Methylchlorid, auch bekannt als Chlormethan, ist ein farbloses, brennbares Gas bei Raumtemperatur mit einem leicht süßlichen Geruch. Seine chemische Formel ist CH3Cl und es gehört zur Klasse der organischen Verbindungen, die als Haloalkane bekannt sind. Methylchlorid ist hochgradig wasserlöslich und kann auch in organischen Lösungsmitteln gelöst werden.
