Iridium ist ein dichtes, silberweißes Übergangsmetall, das zur Platin-Gruppe der Elemente gehört und bekannt ist für seine bemerkenswerte Widerstandsfähigkeit gegen Korrosion und Oxidation. Es hat einen hohen Schmelzpunkt und ist eines der korrosionsbeständigsten Metalle, was es in verschiedenen industriellen Anwendungen wertvoll macht.
