Beschreibung:
Nickel ist ein Übergangsmetall mit dem chemischen Symbol Ni und der CAS-Nummer 7440-02-0. Es zeichnet sich durch sein silber-weißes Aussehen aus und ist bekannt für seine hohe Duktilität und Verformbarkeit. Nickel hat einen relativ hohen Schmelz- und Siedepunkt im Vergleich zu vielen anderen Metallen, was es für Hochtemperaturanwendungen geeignet macht. Es zeigt eine ausgezeichnete Korrosionsbeständigkeit, insbesondere in alkalischen Umgebungen, weshalb es häufig in Legierungen und Beschichtungen verwendet wird, um die Haltbarkeit zu erhöhen. Nickel ist bei Raumtemperatur ferromagnetisch, was bedeutet, dass es magnetisiert werden kann. Es reagiert leicht mit Säuren und setzt Wasserstoffgas frei und kann auch komplexe Ionen in Lösung bilden. Nickel ist ein essentielles Spurenelement in biologischen Systemen und spielt eine Rolle in bestimmten enzymatischen Prozessen, aber übermäßige Exposition kann toxisch sein. Seine Anwendungen reichen von der Edelstahlproduktion bis hin zu Batterien und Katalysatoren in chemischen Reaktionen.
