Praseodym ist ein chemisches Element mit dem Symbol Pr und der Ordnungszahl 59, das zur Lanthanid-Serie des Periodensystems gehört. Es ist ein silber-weißes Metall, das relativ weich und formbar ist und beim frischen Schneiden einen hellen Glanz zeigt. Praseodym ist bekannt für seine einzigartigen Eigenschaften, einschließlich seiner Fähigkeit, eine Vielzahl von Oxidationszuständen zu bilden, hauptsächlich +3 und +4, die zu seinem vielfältigen chemischen Verhalten beitragen. Aufgrund seiner relativ geringen Häufigkeit in der Erdkruste wird Praseodym typischerweise aus Mineralien wie Bastnäsit und Monazit gewonnen.
