Beschreibung:
Samarium ist ein silberweißes, metallisches Element, das als Lanthanid im Periodensystem klassifiziert ist, mit der Ordnungszahl 62. Es ist relativ stabil in der Luft und läuft nicht leicht an, obwohl es mit Wasser und Säuren reagieren kann, um Samarium-Hydroxid und Samarium-Salze zu bilden. Samarium weist einen hohen Schmelzpunkt auf und ist bekannt für seine magnetischen Eigenschaften, was es nützlich macht bei der Herstellung von Permanentmagneten, insbesondere Samarium-Kobalt-Magneten, die für ihre hohe Widerstandsfähigkeit gegen Demagnetisierung bekannt sind. Darüber hinaus wird Samarium in verschiedenen Anwendungen eingesetzt, einschließlich Kernreaktoren, wo es als Neutronenabsorber dient, und in der Herstellung von Phosphoren für Farbfernsehgeräte und LED-Lampen. Das Element wird typischerweise aus Mineralien wie Monazit und Bastnasit gewonnen und wird oft in Form von Legierungen oder Verbindungen verwendet. Die Isotope von Samarium haben Anwendungen in der Medizin, insbesondere in der Krebsbehandlung, aufgrund ihrer radioaktiven Eigenschaften.
