Beschreibung:
Titan, mit dem chemischen Symbol Ti und der CAS-Nummer 7440-32-6, ist ein Übergangsmetall, das für sein hohes Verhältnis von Festigkeit zu Gewicht, seine Korrosionsbeständigkeit und Biokompatibilität bekannt ist. Es hat ein silbergraues Aussehen und ist im Vergleich zu anderen Metallen relativ niedrig in der Dichte, was es zu einer idealen Wahl für Luft- und Raumfahrt-, Automobil- und medizinische Anwendungen macht. Titan zeigt eine ausgezeichnete Beständigkeit gegen Oxidation und Korrosion, insbesondere in rauen Umgebungen, aufgrund der Bildung einer schützenden Oxidschicht auf seiner Oberfläche. Es hat einen hohen Schmelzpunkt und kann extremen Temperaturen standhalten, was zu seiner Nützlichkeit in Hochleistungsanwendungen beiträgt. Titan ist auch ungiftig und wird häufig in medizinischen Implantaten und Prothesen verwendet. Das Metall kann in mehreren Allotropen existieren, wobei die stabilste die hexagonal dichteste Packung (hcp) bei niedrigeren Temperaturen und die kubisch zentrierte Struktur (bcc) bei höheren Temperaturen ist. Darüber hinaus kann Titan verschiedene Legierungen bilden, die seine mechanischen Eigenschaften verbessern und sein Anwendungsspektrum erweitern.
