Cer ist ein silberweißes, duktiles Metall, das zur Lanthanid-Serie des Periodensystems gehört, mit der Ordnungszahl 58 und der CAS-Nummer 7440-45-1. Es ist bekannt für seinen relativ hohen Schmelzpunkt und ist eines der häufigsten Seltenen Erden-Elemente.
