Beschreibung:
Chrom, mit der CAS-Nummer 7440-47-3, ist ein Übergangsmetall, das für seine hohe Korrosionsbeständigkeit und Härte bekannt ist. Es hat eine Ordnungszahl von 24 und wird im Periodensystem durch das Symbol Cr dargestellt. Chrom zeigt einen silber-grauen metallischen Glanz und kommt in der Natur hauptsächlich in Form von Chromit-Erz vor. Es ist gekennzeichnet durch seine Fähigkeit, verschiedene Oxidationszustände zu bilden, wobei +3 und +6 die häufigsten in Verbindungen sind. Chrom wird weit verbreitet in der Produktion von rostfreiem Stahl und anderen Legierungen verwendet, wodurch deren Festigkeit und Widerstandsfähigkeit gegen Oxidation erhöht wird. Darüber hinaus spielt es eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Herstellung von Pigmenten, wie z.B. Chrom-Oxid, das Keramiken und Farben lebendige Farben verleiht. In Bezug auf die chemische Reaktivität kann Chrom mit Sauerstoff und anderen Nichtmetallen reagieren und Oxide sowie andere Verbindungen bilden. Während es in Spuren für biologische Funktionen essentiell ist, sind bestimmte Chrom-Verbindungen, insbesondere hexavalentes Chrom, bekannt dafür, toxisch und krebserregend zu sein, was eine sorgfältige Handhabung und Regulierung erforderlich macht.
