It is synthesized by reacting L-leucine with methylamine and hydrochloric acid, followed by hydrolysis of the ester and subsequent reaction with trifluoroacetic acid. The resulting product is purified by precipitation with ammonium sulfate and has a molecular weight of 476.3 Da. L-Leucine methyl ester HCl is used in pharmaceutical preparations for the treatment of amyloid protein-related diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, as well as cytosolic protein-related diseases such as leishmania and thp-1 cells.
