4,6-Diamino-5-(formylamino)pyrimidine hydrochloride (4,6-dA-FAP) is a nucleic acid polymerase chain reaction probe that binds to damaged DNA. It can be used to identify the presence of nuclear DNA in human polymorphonuclear leukocytes. 4,6-Diamino-5-(formylamino)pyrimidine hydrochloride is also known as a redox indicator and has been shown to have antioxidant properties. This drug is not toxic at physiological levels, but it has been found to be an inhibitor of a number of enzymes. 4,6-Diamino-5-(formylamino)pyrimidine hydrochloride has been used in studies on cancer tissues and biological samples.
