Siliziumdioxid, chemisch bekannt als Siliziumdioxid (SiO2), ist eine natürlich vorkommende Verbindung, die in der Erdkruste reichlich vorhanden ist. Es zeichnet sich durch seine harte, kristalline Struktur aus und kommt häufig in verschiedenen Formen vor, darunter Quarz, Sand und Glas. Siliziumdioxid ist ein farbloser, geruchloser und geschmackloser Feststoff, der in Wasser und den meisten organischen Lösungsmitteln unlöslich ist. Es hat einen hohen Schmelzpunkt und eine ausgezeichnete thermische Stabilität, was es in Hochtemperaturanwendungen nützlich macht. Siliziumdioxid weist eine Reihe von physikalischen Eigenschaften auf, darunter hohe Härte und Sprödigkeit, und es ist ein schlechter Leiter von Elektrizität.
