Salpetersäure, mit der CAS-Nummer 7697-37-2, ist eine hochkorrosive und starke Mineralsäure, die durch ihr farbloses bis gelbliches Aussehen und ihren stechenden Geruch gekennzeichnet ist. Es ist ein starkes Oxidationsmittel und in Wasser löslich, wobei bei der Verdünnung eine stark exotherme Reaktion entsteht.
