CAS:Kontrolliertes ProduktChlorophenothane is an insecticide that belongs to the group of chlorinated hydrocarbons. It is a colorless, oily liquid with a sweet odor and taste. Chlorophenothane has been shown to be toxic to mosquito larvae and fish. The technical form of chlorophenothane is manufactured by reacting phenol with chloroform in the presence of sulfuric acid. This reaction produces the two stereoisomers, alpha-chlorophenothane and beta-chlorophenothane. Alpha-chlorophenothane is more toxic than beta-chlorophenothane because it has a higher solubility in water and therefore greater bioavailability.
