It is a metabolite of quetiapine, an antipsychotic drug used for the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. 2-(2-(4-(Dibenzo[b,f][1,4]thiazepin-11-yl)piperazin-1-yl)ethoxy)ethyl acetatequetiapine acetate has been shown to be more potent than quetiapine in inhibiting dopamine release in rat brain synaptosomes and dopamine transporter activity in human cells.
