It acts by inhibiting the activity of protein synthesis, which is necessary for life. Clostebol acetate inhibits protein synthesis by forming a covalent bond with the sulfur atom of a cysteine amino acid residue in an enzyme called protein synthase. This chemical reaction links two molecules together, which prevents the enzyme from functioning properly. Clostebol acetate can be detected in urine samples using monoclonal antibodies that recognize the carbonyl group or chemical ionization mass spectrometry. The carbonyl group can also be detected using preparative hplc or chlorine atom detection methods.
