It is used to treat infections caused by multidrug resistant bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus. This antibiotic binds to the bacterial ribosome, inhibiting protein synthesis and leading to cell death. (3,4-Difluorophenyl)thiourea has shown antimicrobial activity in vivo and in vitro against staphylococci, including methicillin resistant strains.
