Beschreibung:
Dextran ist ein komplexes verzweigtes Polysaccharid, das aus Glucoseeinheiten besteht, die hauptsächlich durch α(1→6)-glykosidische Bindungen verbunden sind, mit gelegentlichen α(1→3)-Verknüpfungen. Es wird von bestimmten Bakterien, wie Leuconostoc mesenteroides, produziert und wird aufgrund seiner Biokompatibilität und Nicht-Toxizität häufig in verschiedenen Anwendungen eingesetzt. Dextran ist in Wasser löslich und bildet eine viskose Lösung und weist ein hohes Molekulargewicht auf, das je nach Quelle und Produktionsmethode variieren kann.
