5-Methoxy-6,7,8,9-tetrahydroimidazo[1,2-a]quinazolin-2-yl)-phenylmethanone (MTIQ) is a benzodiazepine with chemical structures similar to those of diazepam. It has been shown that MTIQ binds to the benzodiazepine binding site on the GABA receptor and modulates its activity. This drug inhibits GABA uptake in rat cerebellar membranes. MTIQ also has an affinity for benzodiazepine receptors and can inhibit chloride channels in neuronal cells.
