Kaliumethoxid, mit der chemischen Formel C2H5OK, ist ein Alkoxid, das aus Kalium und Ethanol abgeleitet ist. Es erscheint als weißer bis cremefarbener Feststoff und ist hochgradig löslich in polaren Lösungsmitteln wie Ethanol und anderen Alkoholen, während es in unpolaren Lösungsmitteln weniger löslich ist. Diese Verbindung ist hygroskopisch, was bedeutet, dass sie leicht Feuchtigkeit aus der Luft aufnimmt, was zu Hydrolyse und der Bildung von Kaliumhydroxid und Ethanol führen kann. Potassium ethoxide is an ethoxide of potassium. Potassium ethoxides are used as reactive chemicals in the treatment of wastewater, with applications such as neutralization. Potassium ethoxides can also be used to synthesize x-ray crystal structures and has shown potent antitumor activity in mice. The mechanism of action is not known, but it is thought that potassium ethoxides react with activated oxygen species and form superoxide radicals. This reaction may lead to cell death by inhibiting DNA synthesis or by damaging cellular membranes.
