12-O-Tiglylphorbol-13-isobutyrate is a potent cytotoxic and anti-inflammatory agent that inhibits tumor cell growth. It is also an excellent neuroprotective agent that prevents the death of cells in the brain, spinal cord, and retina. 12-O-Tiglylphorbol-13 -isobutyrate has been shown to inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory factors in microglia cells. It is also a potent inhibitor of hepg2 cells, which are susceptible to activation by phorbol esters. The compound has been shown to be effective against tumor cell lines with M2 phenotype (e.g., M2a) or activated microglia cells with M1 phenotype (e.g., M1a). 12-O-Tiglylphorbol-13 -isobutyrate is used as a medicine for treating cancer, including breast cancer and prostate cancer
