3-Nonanone is an organic compound that is used as a conditioning agent in hair care products. It can be found naturally in the essential oils of Zanthoxylum bungeanum, and has been identified as a major component of the volatile fraction of this plant. 3-Nonanone can be synthesized by the reaction between ethyl decanoate and glycol ether, but is usually produced synthetically, by reacting olefin with phosgene.
