CAS:Kontrolliertes ProduktRAC is a prodrug of the active form, bupropion. The drug is metabolized in the liver to its active form and has a half-life of about 12 hours. It is distributed throughout the body, including maternal blood, and can be measured by an analytical method. RAC has been shown to have no effect on 5-HT2A receptors, but it inhibits other receptors that are involved in the regulation of mood, appetite, sleep, and cognition by binding to them as a substrate molecule. RAC has been used for the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in humans; it also improves performance on rotarod tests in rats and is being studied as a potential treatment for Alzheimer's disease.
